About Asensio Coffee

Cousins Jeff and Amy opened Asensio Coffee in August 2013, but the dream started decades earlier.

Our story

A cousins’ dream, opened in 2013.

Cousins Jeff Aasen and Amy Siltanen first started talking about opening a coffee shop together in the late 1980s. It took years of planning, a lot of conversations over other people’s espresso, and a careful choice of neighborhood — but Asensio Coffee opened in August 2013 on 33610 21st Ave SW, and we have been serving the Twin Lakes community ever since.

We are a family-run, independent shop. Not a chain. Not a franchise. Just Amy, Jeff, a small team, and a lot of customers who have become regulars.

What we serve

Organic where it matters most — with real choices on the rest.

Our coffee beans and our loose-leaf teas are 100% organic. Every espresso pull starts with organic coffee from a Puget Sound roaster; every pot of loose-leaf tea starts with organic leaf from Rishi.

On syrups, we carry a large organic lineup from Holy Kakow — vanilla, caramel, hazelnut, almond, cardamom, lavender, and more — alongside a smaller set of non-organic flavors for the drinks that call for them. The menu page notes which flavors are organic.

On milks, we keep both organic and non-organic options on hand so customers can choose. Our Rishi spiced chai is organic and pairs with organic milk by default; most of the alternative milks (almond, coconut, soy) and our dairy come in both organic and conventional versions depending on supply.

The “no artificial sweeteners” rule is a personal commitment from Amy, and it’s the reason we built the menu around Holy Kakow syrups and clean ingredients in the first place.

Our partners

The people behind what we serve.

We source deliberately. Where possible, we work with independent regional suppliers who share our commitment to organic, clean ingredients.

Poverty Bay Coffee Company

Our organic coffee beans are roasted right here in the Puget Sound region. A local roaster, not a national brand.

Rishi Teas

Organic loose-leaf teas — black, green, botanical, and matcha — sourced with care.

Alki Bakery

Fresh pastries delivered from Alki Bakery, a regional bakery we’ve partnered with since early on.

Holy Kakow

Our primary syrup partner and the source of most of our organic flavor lineup — vanilla, caramel, hazelnut, cardamom, and more — plus organic chocolate sauce.

Allergen-friendly

Gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan options on the menu.

You’ll find gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan choices throughout the menu. Our milk alternatives include almond, coconut, and soy, alongside organic and conventional dairy.

An honest caveat: we are not a dedicated gluten-free kitchen. Cross-contact with wheat is possible in a shared space. If you have a severe allergy, please let us know when you order so we can take extra care — or recommend a different option.

If you’re not sure whether something will work for you, just ask. We’d rather slow down and double-check than get it wrong.

Community

Nextdoor Neighborhood Favorite, seven years running.

Asensio Coffee has been voted Nextdoor Neighborhood Favorite every year from 2017–2023 — seven consecutive years. That’s a neighborhood vote, and it matters to us. Federal Way’s Twin Lakes is where we opened, where we’ve stayed, and where we’ll keep serving.
